Managed Care/Continuity of Care
Managed Care can be defined as a method of health care delivery that focuses on collaboration and coordination of all services to avoid duplication of services, delays and over-spending. It can also be described as a variety of techniques implemented to reduce unnecessary healthcare costs through a variety of mechanisms which could include economic incentives to physicians and patients. This is done in an effort to implement less costly forms of care, including programs for reviewing the necessity of some offered services, including controls on inpatient admissions and a person's lengths of stays, to name a few.For many states, the Medicare program and other providers are moving forward with their own type of accountable care organizations.
Another aspect of Managed Care is known as Continuity of Care. Continuity is the experience of how care relates to patient's satisfaction with both the interpersonal aspects of care and the coordination of that care. In contrast, continuity for the care of a patient cannot be evaluated solely through the patient's experiences, but is related to many aspects of services such as case-management and multidisciplinary team-working. From a provider perspective, the focus is on effective service delivery and improved patient outcomes. A full consideration of continuity of care should cover both patient and provider perspectives, exploring how these come together to enhance the care, based around the patient's needs.

"CoNned" Beyond Reasonable Doubt

So, What Have We Been Up To, Lately?

In April, we attended the Michigan Chapter of the National Children's Alliance (MINCA) show, in Traverse City, where SDFI's Ward Allen gave a talk, entitled "Technology Facts, Fears, Photos and Myths of Digital Forensic Photodocumentation Within Multidisciplinary Child Advocacy Centers".
Also, in April, we ventured into Compliance territory - a field which is brand new to us, when we attended the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) show in Las Vegas - an experience which proved to be very valuable!
Please check out our Press Releases, detailing more information about these events, Here.
